When you’re running your own business, it’s important to find the right players to help your cause. No matter your industry, the team with the best mix of skills is often the one that often finds the greatest success.
But, who should that be? Seasoned pros who know what they are doing and/or are set in their ways? Would it be better to have less experienced but enthusiastic people to share your vision with and drive your company forward?
The short answer to this question is all of the above. While there’s not a specific formula, there’s a lot of advice out there on what may be best for you. We looked at some of what was found in recent articles in Entrepreneur and Forbes that offer some sage advice from professionals on who to have on your team.
Here’s a look at a few of those recommendations:
Get someone who is an innovator: Having a maverick as part of your team can help you stand out in the marketplace, as they can come up with ideas for products or services that can’t be found elsewhere, or that might be a twist on a tried-and-true idea.
Look for a master organizer: Keeping a team on task, especially as it starts to ascend, is always a challenge. So having someone with skills in managing people and working through processes — maybe even rethinking them if they aren’t working — can be a great skill for your team.
Don’t forget about the marketing: Finding a skilled person who knows how to speak to your audience is essential, especially with social media or the web. A person well versed in this skill can bring a lot to the table with planning and execution on your vision to a lot more people than you may be expecting.
Find a mentor for your team: It’s great having someone by your side that’s been there and done that — and that sees it as an investment in your business to tell you what they did on their own. Mentors also may learn from the interactions they would have from you — and would be open to giving back just to have another learning experience. Through your networking, try to find someone you can lean on for advice.
No matter who you decide is a part of your team, it’s always a good idea to get support in different facets, so you can think more about the big picture. ARO can be one of your trusted partners as your business evolves.
